EDUCATION AND PROGRAMS

Another objective of Recycled Critter Rescue is to educate the public about the responsibility of pet ownership, including, but not limited to: population control (SPAY and NEUTER), proper care, regular medical check ups, current vaccinations, and the RAMIFICATIONS of DECLAWING.  RCR plans to visit local schools, teaching children to respect and care for their pets.  The education of children is considered one of our foremost responsibilities.  By teaching children at a young age the proper treatment of pets, and animals in general, we hope they will grow as responsible pet owners for the future.  As well, they will teach their parents and other adults about the around-the-clock needs of their pets.  CHILDREN ARE THE ANSWER TO THE OVERPOPULATION OF ANIMALS.  Overall, RCR promotes the idea that a pet is a living being, a 24-hour responsibility and a life-time commitment.

RCR advocates keeping your dog inside or in a carrier when unattended.  We also believe that cats and kittens should be kept inside at all times except when on a leash or in a contained area such as a cat run.  By keeping your animals under your control, you will save your pet from injury, disease and unwanted pregnancy.  Since many of the dogs and cats that end up on the street or in shelters are the result of unwanted offspring, spaying or neutering your pets, at a minimum, will help keep the population under control.

Few people understand the magnitude of the overpopulation problem.  Approximately 33,000 animals died in local shelters last year and 17 million in the United States.  Many dogs are taken to shelters because of behavioral problems; therefore, dog obedience training is a must.  Due to the "throw away" nature of of society, many uncaring people simply dump their often abused animals.  These animals frequently arrive at shelters, further contributing to the problem.  Our society must understand that all animals need a gentle, loving hand to develop trust.

THE FUTURE

As a non-profit organization, Recycled Critter Rescue is driven by the determination and dedication of a very special group of volunteers and foster home providers.  With constant recruiting, we will continue to expand with the attitude that as more people are involved, more lives can be saved, and more of a force RCR can become against the worldwide problem of animal neglect and overpopulation.  Our ultimate goal is to completely eradicate unnecessary euthanasia.
